Dead Man Flying
Summer of 2019 CRC-9 was flying the mighty sky pig, EP-3E, in the Arabian Gulf just as they have for many days! On this particular day the challenges over guard by the closest air space controller were particularly spicy. Of course we were flying in international airspace but the air controller was not digging our route of flight. Our responses in accordance with CDR’s guidance was always plain vanilla and straight up professional. On the 9th and final challenge he ended the call with “You are a dead man”. Hence our crew patch was cemented in our minds. The skull with Dave Clarks over our mighty sky pig EP-3E prop and that creepy quote became our deployment motto! Good times!
